Just a reminder that we're taking a 'breather' and the farm is now closed until after Christmas. We re open at 12.30 pm on Tuesday 27th December. There are lots of maintenance jobs to do during this time ...... Weather permitting! so we won't be bored and the kites will still be fed daily, so no need to worry about that.
If we get some snow during our closed period we will re-open the farm so that the photographers amongst you can take advantage of the photographic opportunity. If this happens We'll post on facebook and the website, so please keep an eye out for this.
We'd like to say A big thank you to everyone who has visited us and thank you also for the kind comments we have received.
We've had a good year and we would particularly like to thank our dedicated staff team, Alan, Belinda, Colin & Garth, without whom we would not be able to run the farm.
Finally we wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas, and look forward to welcoming you back after the festivities.
Chris & family

A reporter came to the farm last week and took photographs and film. These went to the online papers and to print the next day. We are now feeding anything upwards of 500 red kites this autumn.
We have been open 7 days a week for tens of years, but things are now changing. From 1st November we will be open from Tuesday through to Sunday and closed on Mondays, but will still open 7 days a week for Bank holidays and School holidays.

Radio Wales came to Gigrin yesterday, and that all went very well.
Sky News are coming here on Thursday. Don't yet know why they are filming here, but we will doubtless be told on the day.
The numbers of kites visiting the feeding centre has not diminished despite the warmer weather and look stunning in the sunshine.

We’re feeling pretty fed up.! We have a wonderful and loyal customer base, and we operate in a slightly old-fashioned way - on the basis of our trust and customers’ honesty. It makes for a happy life, but there’s always one. A very recent customer has posted on Trip Advisor to encourage customers to pay for a ‘cheap’ hide, and, because there’s nobody checking tickets, to take advantage and upgrade to one of our specialist hides ‘for free’. We are sending our response to Trip Advisor, but do not know if they will publish it – so here it is below. Any support would be most welcome and please feel free to share:
Thank you for visiting Gigrin Farm and for recommending the farm to other Trip Advisor users. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed seeing the kites, however, we are very concerned, and surprised, that you encourage people to pay the minimum entrance fee and then take advantage of our trust, and upgrade to a specialist hide without paying.
Gigrin Farm is a small venture and is reliant upon the honesty of its customers in paying the right entrance fee. The entrance fees go directly towards paying for the meat which is fed to the kites – some 40 to 50 kilos per day. The Red Kite Feeding Centre at Gigrin Farm does not receive any subsidy from any organization, and without the entrance fee income the Red Kite Feeding operation would end.
The hides you refer to are pre–booked online and we are aware of both when they are booked, and by whom they are booked. Entrance tickets/receipts are issued when people arrive and pay, and we do check these.. We also have cameras around the farm. Anyone found attempting to upgrade without paying is asked to either pay for the upgrade, or if they refuse, asked to leave the farm.
We trust this clarifies the situation.
